The EK10 Mars Rover

Your child builds it. Programs it. Keeps it.

The EK10 is not sold in any store. The only way to own one: build it yourself at The Art of Engineering.

What's inside the EK10

CreatorPort EK10 — front view showing micro:bit and gripper
Brain — BBC micro:bit

The world's most trusted educational computer — used in schools across the UK, Europe and Asia. Your child programs it with colorful blocks; at home, the free software keeps working.

Drive — Tank tracks

Dual motors with independent tank-track drive. The EK10 drives, turns on the spot, reverses — and climbs terrain that wheels can't.

Eyes — Laser distance sensor

A time-of-flight laser sensor (the same technology as in robot vacuums) lets the rover measure distance and stop precisely at its target.

Gripper module

A servo-powered gripper that picks up, carries and places objects on the Mars surface.

Drill module

Swappable with the gripper: a drill attachment that breaks the terrain to prepare the ground for planting. Modular design — kids swap tools like real mission engineers.

AI Vision camera

A trainable machine-vision camera. Kids teach it themselves — at the press of a button — to recognize objects and colors. All AI runs on the device itself: no cloud, no internet, no data leaves the rover.

Chassis — LEGO-Technic-compatible bricks

Built by hand from LEGO-Technic-compatible bricks. No glue, no screws — pins and snap-fits. At home, it connects with any bricks your child already owns.

CreatorPort EK10 — side profile with servo and wiring

The EK10 — including all electronics, motors, sensors and the micro:bit — belongs to your child. The programming software is free and runs in any browser, so the missions continue at home: new programs, new attachments, new ideas. And because the chassis uses LEGO-Technic-compatible bricks, every brick in your home just became rover parts.

Safe by design

All soldering, wiring and tricky prep is done before camp by our engineer. Children work with safe, pre-prepared components and never handle hot tools. Programming is done with colorful blocks and icons — no reading or typing required. If your child can stack bricks, they can build and program the EK10.
